CKM0306 CEN KAOS CNC ALUMINUM SERVO SAVER 1/8 FORD M-SPORT PUMA

CEN KAOS CNC ALUMINIUM SERVO SAVER 1/8 FORD M-SPORT PUMA RALLY1 CKM0306

The CEN Racing CKM0306 CNC Aluminium Servo Saver is a steering-system upgrade for the CEN 1/8 Ford M-Sport Puma Rally1 platform. CEN lists CKM0306 within its KAOS Rally1 upgrade range and identifies it specifically as a CNC aluminium servo saver for this chassis family.

VERIFIED PRODUCT DATA

• Material: Aluminium
• Verified Application: CEN 1/8 Ford M-Sport Puma Rally1

WHAT THE SERVO SAVER DOES

The servo saver sits in the steering load path between the steering servo and the rest of the steering mechanism. Its function is to transmit normal steering input while allowing controlled compliance when the front wheels experience a sharp impact or sudden resistance. That compliance helps reduce the shock load transmitted directly into the servo output system and steering hardware.

CNC ALUMINIUM CONSTRUCTION

CEN explicitly identifies CKM0306 as a CNC aluminium component. A machined aluminium body provides a rigid steering interface, but the actual protection and steering response still depend on the complete servo-saver mechanism, spring/preload arrangement, pivots, bearings or bushings where applicable, and correct installation.

FITMENT

CKM0306 is cataloged for the CEN 1/8 Ford M-Sport Puma Rally1. Match by exact part number rather than assuming compatibility with unrelated CEN steering systems or generic 1/8 servo savers.

STEERING LOAD PATH

Steering torque travels from the servo through the saver and bell-crank system to the steering links and hub carriers. If any part of this chain has excessive play, binding or poor alignment, the result can feel like weak steering even when the servo itself is healthy. A new servo saver should therefore be installed as part of a complete steering inspection.

INSTALLATION CHECKLIST

• Confirm the vehicle is a compatible CEN 1/8 M-Sport Puma Rally1 platform.
• Inspect the steering bell cranks, pivot posts, bearings/bushings and tie rods before installation.
• Remove debris and burrs from all mating surfaces.
• Transfer reusable hardware only if threads and pivot surfaces are in good condition.
• Seat the servo saver squarely with no forced misalignment.
• Verify the steering system moves freely through full left and right travel.
• Check that the servo saver does not bind before the steering reaches its intended mechanical stops.
• Center the servo electronically and mechanically before finalizing linkage length.
• Set steering endpoints so the servo is not driving hard against a mechanical stop.
• Reinspect steering hardware after the first driving session.

SERVO PROTECTION VS. STEERING PRECISION

A servo saver is a compromise between steering precision and impact protection. Excessive compliance can create vague steering or delayed response; too little compliance can transfer more impact energy into the servo and steering parts. CEN does not publish a quantified saver spring rate or recommended preload value for CKM0306, so GASHEAD RC does not invent one.

COMMON PROBLEMS TO CHECK

• Loose or vague steering: inspect saver movement, bell-crank play, tie-rod ends and servo output play.
• Steering does not self-center: check for binding, uneven linkage geometry or excessive saver friction.
• Servo buzzes at full lock: reduce steering endpoints and verify the linkage is not contacting a mechanical stop.
• Unequal left/right steering: verify servo centering, bell-crank indexing and tie-rod symmetry.
• Repeated servo damage: inspect whether the saver is functioning and whether the steering system is binding under impact.

STEERING BIND & ENDPOINT CHECK

After installation, disconnect power and move the steering manually through its full range. Resistance should be smooth and consistent. Then power the vehicle and set transmitter endpoints so the servo stops before the steering mechanism reaches a hard mechanical limit. This reduces unnecessary servo load and heat.

MAINTENANCE

Keep the steering mechanism clean and periodically inspect the servo saver for developing play, damaged hardware or impact marks. Check the bell-crank pivots and tie-rod ends at the same time, because wear elsewhere in the steering system can mask or exaggerate servo-saver behavior.

WHAT CEN DOES NOT PUBLISH

CEN confirms the CKM0306 identity, CNC aluminium construction and 1/8 Ford M-Sport Puma Rally1 application. Current published information does not specify servo spline count, saver spring rate, preload range, exact dimensions, individual weight, aluminium alloy grade, anodizing specification or installation torque values. GASHEAD RC does not invent those specifications.

GASHEAD RC NOTE

CKM0306 should be evaluated as part of the complete steering system. Precise steering depends on a centered servo, free bell-crank movement, correct endpoints, tight-but-free pivots and a servo saver that can absorb impacts without introducing excessive steering play.
